Observer in the Gallery
“Look at my eyes”,
the person said
pointing at a picture in disdain.
My gaze remained
on their silhouette -
They looked like a work of fame.
As if Giacometti had built them.
“Look how they stare at that blank slate
the curators labelled 'Self Portrait of Him'" -
Then in anger they just turned and went.
Their future looked grim,
growing taller but thin
with each step through the rows of men.
Maybe one day
they will pose
in the Metropolitan.
